Kid-friendly San Francisco City Hall wedding

tearful city hall wedding ceremony on mayor's balcony

This sweet, family-centered City Hall wedding ceremony! So much joy and kid-friendly fun!

Darcie and Robert decided to celebrate their tenth anniversary by getting married at City Hall, San Francisco with their cute kids in tow!

This was just a few months after their move up from San Diego where they’d previously lived for 5 years. The couple originally hails from Los Angeles.

How this family-centered couple met

Darcie and Robert met a decade ago at a bar, after Darcie had a bad day and had driven 85 miles to an event that didn’t end up happening. Her friend owned a bar so she decided to go and pay a visit and vent to her pal.

Vent she did, admitting that she may have complained just a touch about the awful day she was having. Unknown to her, a cute guy was sitting nearby and Darcie was mortified that he must have heard the whole conversation!

Robert who was sitting nearby didn’t hear a thing!

Just then, the karaoke guy called in sick and Darcie was called up to the stage to host the karaoke. She’d been up since 5am and was still having a bad day. However she chose to help out her bar-owner friend as she’d hosted karaoke before.

Robert was about to leave, but decided to stay once he realized how entertaining Darcie was!

Darcie and Robert now have 2 tiny humans, as well as an almost grown-up son from Darcie’s previous relationship, so kids were a huge part of this wedding. Darcie’s mother flew in from Southern California, so 3 generations were in attendance at this sweet ceremony.

An occasion for posed & candid photos

These folks are not ‘selfie’ people! They only have a handful of photos of the two of them together, so the occasion was a rare chance for some posed and candid photos.

For a kid-friendly San Francisco City Hall wedding we still carved out time for pics of the couple alone.

Even though they’re not the type to call a photographer for all of life’s milestones, they were told that they would seriously regret it if they don’t hire a photographer. Got to agree! 😉

I love to work with whatever’s going on around us on the wedding day. City Hall can be unpredictable (in a good way) with so much that might be unfolding! I’ve seen protests, hordes of visiting schoolchildren, massive tourist groups, gala event preparation, and huge film crews.

Their wedding took place on the Mayor’s Balcony, located on the 2nd Floor of San Francisco City Hall. Darcie & Robert lucked out on the space, but you can find out more about how to book this space (and more up-to-date example photos) at the link below.

A press conference on their City Hall wedding day

The day Darcie and Robert got married, San Francisco then mayor-elect London Breed held a press conference on the steps of City Hall after candidate Mark Leno called Breed to concede.

They exited the building where reporters were eagerly waiting for Breed, and got a huge round of applause! They were approached by a reporter soon afterwards.

After leaving City Hall in style, we headed to Twin Peaks and the Sutro Baths of Lands End for more couples photos.

Choosing a City Hall wedding photographer

Darcie found my work on Instagram and said she ‘digs my aesthetic’ and was drawn to the unpretentious, quirky nature of my work.
