Temescal Beach House wedding

Temescal Beach House Wedding Photos by Zoe Larkin Photography

If you’re considering the Temescal Beach House, Oakland for your wedding, feast your eyes on this recent wedding, photographed by one of our associate photographers!

Emma (they/them) and Dylan (he/him) chose this venue for their relaxed and informal ‘Jewish-ish’ wedding in 2022.

When they reached out, they told me they were planning a smallish wedding and were trying to keep it as informal as possible, but with their large families that was challenging.

As they were trying to keep their nuptials as affordable as possible, they opted for an associate photographer, Jeremi.

Thinking of getting married at this hidden gem of a venue in Oakland? Read on for more about this wedding and how you can get the most out of your wedding day at the Temescal Beach House.

About Temescal Beach House

This place has history and elegance in spades, yet retains a very down-to-earth feel and a welcoming ambiance.

The indoor/outdoor aspect is ideal for winter months and shoulder seasons when the weather is uncertain.

The venue also boasts an elegant stone edifice and offers a stunning view of the beautiful lake from the Lakeside Room, creating an atmosphere of romance in an urban setting.

Its surroundings are pure abundant greenery, lively wildlife, shimmering water, and sandy shores.

The two-tiered beach house is tucked amidst a lush cluster of trees and is adorned with three arches carved into its distinctive stonework.

Towards the rear of the house lies a flagstone patio bordered by aromatic gardens – an idyllic spot for smaller gatherings and of course, wedding ceremonies.

When evening falls, guests adjourn to the cozy Fireside Room, where a crackling fireplace adds warmth to the already inviting, cabin-style space.

The Lakeview Room measures 38’x15’. The Fireside Room measures 29’x29’ and the Patio size is 92’x28’.

You’ll see below how Emma & Dylan used this unique Oakland wedding venue for their September wedding.

Structure of their Temescal Beach House wedding day

Emma & Dylan opted for 8 hours of photography, as their wedding was during a weekend date in peak wedding season.

They wanted to incorporate some other locations into their wedding day shoot, so the photographer and the couple started at César E. Chávez Park, then headed on to Piedmont Park.

There are other places I’d recommend as options for portrait locations on your wedding day that are even closer! These include Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve, Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve, Joaquin Miller Park (where the Chabot is), Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park or around Lake Temescal itself.

We’d already visited Sibley on their engagement session, which was much more relaxed as it’s an important place to the couple. We caught a magnificent sunset there, too! Check it out:

After the photos around the East Bay, things kicked off at 3pm with the set up of the space and signing of the marriage license and ketubah. It was all hands on deck, even the couple.

After the short ceremony under the chuppah, the couple had a private moment (a yichud) and then a welcome via Zoom.

Soon it was time for the formal group photos, dinner, speeches (in Emma’s words, a roast n’ toast), and more informal festivities to round out the night, with the wedding finishing up at 9.30pm.
