This sweet Mission SF engagement session in the heart of San Francisco’s 24th Street Mission District was such a fun and special one!
We not only ran around the murals, particularly the incredible Balmy Alley, we also were lucky enough to have Humphry Slocombe agree to let us shoot at their location on Harrison!
As if that weren’t enough, to round things off we stopped by Alley Cat Books and the 24th BART Station, to catch the last of that gorgeous light.

The engaged couple
Caroline reflects that she feels incredibly lucky that she and Andrew met just over two years ago.
The couple was introduced by a mutual friend while Andrew was visiting California from his life in Washington D.C. They hit it off immediately.
On the strength of one amazing, very long date, Andrew decided to “extend” his stay in California to see where things could go. They have been together ever since!
It was Caroline’s idea to shoot in the Mission District because it’s where she used to live! She lived in tiny studio apartment on Capp St when she and Andrew fell in love.
Mission SF engagement session
The area is infused with meaning for them! The used bookstore and even the 24th Street BART station bring back memories of that time! They were getting to know each other and becoming increasingly sure that they were going to be together for the long haul.
The couple loves cooking together, reading – especially good spy novels – and exploring new places. They make each other laugh at TON with ridiculous antics and terrible puns.
Their enjoyment of life, laughter and each other is very evident in the fun nature of the shoot.
When they’re not cavorting, dancing, kissing and snuggling in alleyways, Caroline works in product marketing at a tech company. She wants you to know that she once ate 13 pieces of pizza in one sitting at a Pizza Hut buffet 😉
As you can see, folks, this is a multi-talented couple right here. And Andrew is a candymaker!

Candy colors + street art
Speaking of candy, the pastel candy colors of the Mission are a photographer’s dream. The mix of vibrant, bold shades, and the more muted tones are so much fun to play with!
Caroline loves “the bright colors and the old Victorians right next to hipster coffee places and taquerias.”
As a Mission District resident myself, I have to say she has this absolutely right. It’s all those things that help to make this place so unique, and filled with life and heart.
From Caroline’s review:
From the moment that I started corresponding with Zoe, I knew she was a true professional. She was detail oriented, quick to respond to questions, and full of ideas and suggestions on how to make our engagement shoot truly memorable (like pre-arranging with a local ice creamery to let us shoot in their shop!).
When the day came for our shoot, we met her for a walking tour of our favorite spots in the Mission (the neighborhood where we fell in love), and she was able to capture the vibrant colors, the energy, and our joy perfectly!
She even took extra time to visit a couple more spots than originally planned, because we kept seeing such interesting backdrops along the way.
She was fun, patient, and encouraging, and we had a great time. Zoe turned around our photos in record time, and we absolutely love them. We can’t say enough good things about Zoe, and would work with her again in a heartbeat!
Congratulations, Caroline & Andrew!
