Overview of Piedmont Community Hall for weddings
Located in the small town of Piedmont, northeast of Oakland, this venue has won the hearts of many wedding photographers (and couples!)
As you approach the hall, vibrant azaleas and camellias greet you near the circular plaza. Majestic redwoods and cherry blossoms grace the area, while a peaceful stream wraps around to create a serene atmosphere.
In addition to the main garden, there’s a charming Japanese Tea House, which was donated to the City of Piedmont. Couples can opt for an intimate ceremony here or use it as a calm space to relax before their big day. With its removable walls, the Tea House doubles as an additional bar or appetizer station on warmer days.
Hidden within the park’s core lies an enchanting amphitheater among redwoods—the ideal location for couples to exchange their vows.
For receptions, Piedmont Community Hall offers elegance with its Mediterranean flair, complete with taupe walls and terracotta roof. Highlighted by soaring ceilings, massive windows, polished hardwood floors, and classy chandeliers, it’s a fantastic wedding venue with much to offer.
Alternatively, couples can opt for an open-air reception on the patio under sparkling Bay Area night skies. Effortless elegance radiates from this thoughtfully designed outdoor space. Just be sure to book early since it’s highly sought-after.
Our wedding couple
Our couple, Cheryl and O.B. booked one of our associate photographers to capture their August 2021 wedding plus a second photographer as their wedding guests numbered over 120.
The couple described themselves as a ‘down-to-earth multi-racial couple’ from Chinese and Hispanic backgrounds respectively.
Cheryl is proud to be San Francisco-born and raised, and O.B. is from Nicaragua and had been in California since 2003. The pair met salsa dancing. They’d been engaged for three years and were just starting to look at wedding venues when 2020 rolled around! It was important to them to have a larger celebration complete with family members present, many of whom traveled a very long way to be there!
One of my favorite moments was when Cheryl surprised O.B. with a song immediately after their first dance! I also really loved their color palette of seafoam green complemented by the eucalyptus table runners and with pops of crimson from the floral arrangements. Also, it’s such a naturally beautiful venue, it doesn’t need a lot of decor!
The lighting design with that rich magenta during dancing also brought so much elegance and ambiance to the occasion. Love!
Kiara from Kiara Event Planning did such an amazing job bringing the vision to life and adding that extra finesse to the design aspects.
Cheryl and O.B. had their ceremony at San Francisco City Hall, then went to both Lands End and their home in San Francisco for photos there! It did end up being a long day, and our lead photographer was booked for 12 hours. Our couple didn’t want to miss out on any photo moments, have any regrets or feel too rushed.
These photos showcase the reception only, but there are also fantastic areas to have an outdoor ceremony here at Piedmont Community Center. Read on to find out more and I’ll showcase them all!
Areas at Piedmont Community Hall
Bookings for Piedmont Community Hall itself include the adjoining patio space which you see in photos from the wedding we photographed here. Here’s a rundown of some of the other areas I researched online:
Amphitheater
This is the most popular ceremony space. It’s located in the heart of the park, surrounded by redwoods. If natural beauty is your thing (or you don’t want to do a lot for ceremony decor), it’s perfect. The patio seats 120 guests comfortably. Additional seating is available in the bleachers which accommodates another 80 guests.
Exedra Plaza Fountain
Exedra Plaza is the centerpiece of the Piedmont Community Park – you may have spotted it while walking through the space. It’s iconic! And an incredible backdrop for your ceremony. The patio can seat up to 200 guests.
Japanese Tea House
Nestled in a corner of Piedmont Park, the unique and serene Japanese Tea House is surrounded by majestic redwoods and a picturesque cherry walk. Complementing the scene is an abundance of deck space and seating. It was refurbished in the 2010s with a dry stream bed installation, decking, new railings, tree & under-bench lighting. It’s great as a getting-ready suite or even as the location for a small ceremony. Perfect for unique photos – it is designed to look as if the building is floating above the pond!
Piedmont Veterans’ Memorial Building
Piedmont Veterans’ Memorial Building offers a spacious indoor structure, with a vintage feel of hardwood floors and neutral walls. It has a 250-person capacity standing or 200 seated guests.
801 Magnolia Building
This offers an affordable rental venue in an art gallery setting. Its website states that the center is available for arts-related events, but in 2022 it was announced they 801 Magnolia would open select weekend dates each year for private events. Information is a little thin on the ground so it’s worth reaching out to the venue coordinator. It was also stated on the website that 801 Magnolia has no kitchen or catering space available on site, so unless that has changed it would be a ceremony-only space or work with platters prepared offsite.
Capacity of Piedmont Community Hall for wedding receptions
The capacity of Piedmont Community Hall is 120 guests seated. Indoors, 200 guests is the outdoor capacity.
How many parking spaces are available at Piedmont Community Hall?
There are 30 parking spaces available on site but there is additional street parking available. If you have a hotel block booked locally, consider renting a shuttle. Or for those that live locally, you could ask them to Uber or carpool.
