If you’re considering getting married at the Presidio Log Cabin in San Francisco, I’m here to spill the tea!
First off, the cabin offers an expansive outdoor space with peekaboo views of the Golden Gate Bridge, city skyline and lush eucalyptus groves. The natural scenery provides an enchanting setting, perfect for both ceremonies and receptions.
As a photographer, I always have an eye out for spots around any venue with ample natural light and picturesque backdrops. There’s no shortage here.
This rustic venue has historical elegance in spades, yet price-wise it’s on the lower side of what you might imagine paying for an all-in-one (ceremony & location) venue within San Francisco proper.
Recently I photographed the wedding of Liz and Gabe that I’ll share throughout this article. But my passion is serving couples in every way I can – so I’ll admit I did a bit of a deep dive into the rabbit hole to bring you some hopefully useful information to ponder over while planning!
Let me guide you through this iconic SF wedding venue and former army clubhouse.

About this wedding
Liz and Gabe tied the knot officially at San Francisco City Hall but headed over to the beautiful Log Cabin for their reception immediately after! It makes a great combo! Presidio Log Cabin is a fabulous, affordable reception venue after your ceremony at San Francisco City Hall.
However, the venue works perfectly for ceremonies out on that spacious lawn with incredible views. If you’re looking for an affordable all-in-one wedding venue in San Francisco, you can’t go wrong with the Presidio Log Cabin.
Liz and Gabe’s wedding day was May the Fourth, so there were Star Wars touches that added fun and personality.
One highlight for me was the grand entrance with those amazing cold sparklers. Talk about a visual spectacle for your guests! Wedgewood venues often add these little touches that surprise and delight your guests. Here are a few more faves!:
The atmosphere of this wedding was relaxed, elegant and welcoming. The guests were super easy-going and fun! Liz and Gabe didn’t want to sweat the small stuff, so they hired an incredible vendor team (including a fantastic planner). This was an intentional step to be fully present and relaxed.
They only had a photographer there for a small part of the overall reception, so they missed out on dancing photos with the lively band they hired! Naturally, I recommend having a photographer there to capture at least 30-45 minutes of open dancing at the end of the event (especially when you’ve got live music!).
At the end of their beautiful day, we drove to a nearby Golden Gate Bridge location for sunset photos (the location is here: Langdon Ct, San Francisco, CA 94129).

Features of the Presidio Log Cabin
Here I’m going to go over some of the features of the venue and relate this back to photography as well! Here we go:
Spaciousness
It’s a large space that works for mid-large weddings of up to 150 guests. It’s indoor/outdoor as well so this lends added versatility in case of cold or rain. The lawn is really huge so guests won’t feel cooped up. There are beautiful patio views to be had day or night for those taking a breather from the party. Larger areas are great for photos so we aren’t on top of your guests while still getting all the angles!
The views!
Honestly, having your ceremony overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and SF skyline is a dream come true for most that choose this venue. However, it can get extremely windy on the lawn, and lighting is particularly challenging during sunny ceremonies!
Moody period details
Inside, there are dark-wood log walls, beams, wrought iron wagon-wheel chandeliers, and an oversize stone fireplace. Lots of wood – Monterey cypress, to be precise. While these add a cozy vibe, expect the photos to take on a darker tone than a venue with white walls. Think: rustic grandeur.
There is a ton of natural light though, with huge scenic windows, which helps!
Versatility no matter the season
Whether it’s a sunny summer day or a cozy winter evening, the Presidio Log Cabin holds its own. The outdoor space is perfect for ceremonies, while the cozy interior provides an intimate setting for receptions.
Convenient location
Located right off the 101 and within San Francisco, it’s easy to reach and centrally located. It’s so close to various viewpoints of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Laid-back vibe
The Log Cabin may be charming, but it isn’t stuffy. It has a relaxed feel which you don’t have to dress up to the nines to make it appealing. It’s perfect for those seeking something more down-to-earth, with the simple beauty of a timeless view and old wood decor.
Uncomplicated elegance
There’s a beauty in simplicity, and the Presidio Log Cabin embodies that elegance. It doesn’t scream opulence, but rather whispers sophistication. This makes it easier for couples to infuse their personalities into the day without feeling overwhelmed by an extravagant backdrop.
Other highlights
Highlights include the flexible floor plan (with lots of open space), built-in dancefloor and excellent in-house catering.
There is parking on-site and the option to block off part of the lot for your guests’ exclusive use, but it’s worth inquiring directly with the venue about exactly what’s offered.
The Log Cabin at the Presidio is now a Wedgewood wedding venue, meaning it’s run by an experienced event team. While some may find this ‘cookie-cutter’, there’s nothing wrong with a tried and tested template if it just works! Event staff are usually happy to customize items according to your preferences.
Pitfalls of the Log Cabin at the Presidio
Honestly, the time I spent photographing Liz & Gabe’s wedding at the Log Cabin, I came across no issues whatsoever.
However, it wouldn’t be a Zoe Larkin Photography article without giving you the full scoop. So, I gleaned the interwebs for what others are saying about the venue.
It’s important to speak to venue staff directly, as these may not all be legitimate or current concerns!
Limited parking space?
Some couples and guests have mentioned that parking can be tight, especially during peak wedding season. This conflicts somewhat with the venue’s info online that parking is plentiful. Suggesting carpooling or arranging alternative transportation might be helpful.
Weather concerns
The fickle San Francisco weather can certainly be unpredictable/ A few reviewers mentioned concerns about intense wind, fog, and chilly evenings, so appropriate attire and backup plans could ease comfort for you and your guests.
Size constraints
For larger weddings, some reviewers noted that the venue might feel a bit cozy. If you have a lengthy guest list, it’s essential to consider the space and issues like proximity of tables and ability to move around.
Noise from nearby events
The Presidio hosts various events, and sometimes there could be noise from those plus the nearby soccer field and the busy major road below. While this isn’t a common issue, it’s something you might want to be aware of if creating a serene atmosphere is a priority.
Historic restraints
A few reviewers mentioned that the historical nature of the venue comes with some restrictions. If you’re looking to add decor or alter the space, you might face limitations.
Exclusive caterer
The Presidio Log Cabin has an exclusive catering arrangement. While the catering service is generally well-received, some couples expressed a desire for more flexibility in choosing their caterer. I must say I thought the food was excellent!
Booking availability
Given its popularity, securing a date at the Presidio Log Cabin can be competitive. It’s a good idea to plan well in advance to ensure they get the date you’d like or be flexible and choose an off-peak date.
Minimal bridal suite
Some brides mentioned that the bridal suite at the Presidio Log Cabin is a bit on the smaller side though I’ve never seen it myself! For those who envision a spacious getting-ready area, this could be something to factor into your plans. Alternatively, budget enough time to ensure getting-ready photos take place at your home or hotel.
Surrounding greenery maintenance
While the natural setting is a highlight, a few reviewers pointed out that the surrounding greenery might require regular maintenance. Couples planning an outdoor ceremony might want to check in on the condition of the foliage leading up to their big day.
To sum up
In conclusion, the Presidio Log Cabin has an undeniable allure that appeals not only to couples but also to wedding photographers like myself. I’d be only too happy to return to this venue and make more magic!
The Log Cabin’s striking natural surroundings, evocative rustic interiors, and practical layout make capturing timeless memories a joyful and effortless experience. If you’re looking for an enchanting and accessible place to celebrate your love story, this iconic San Francisco venue just might be the picture-perfect match.
